With iOS 16, Apple introduced a complete overhaul of the iOS lock screen, making it more customizable than ever and capable of displaying information-rich widgets. This article will show you with iOS 16: how to customize the lock screen.

In iOS 16, you can customize the lock screen with fonts, colors and, for the first time, unique widgets. To get started, all you have to do is unlock your iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID, then tap Lock Screen. Long press to enter Lock Screen gallery.

If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll be familiar with the process below, as it’s very similar to how watch face customization works. The lock screens here are categorized into Collections (Apple Stock Lock Screens), Photos and Colors.

You can swipe left and right to select an existing lock screen, and then long press one to set it.

Alternatively, you can tap Customize to personalize the currently selected lock screen, or tap the blue + button to create a brand new one. Next we will focus on customizing an existing lock screen.

Tapping on Customize will bring up an interactive view of your lock screen with several options depending on the type of lock screen.

If you’re customizing a color lock screen, you can tap the color circle on the left to change the color, and you can swipe left and right to apply different styles to the image.

If you’re customizing a “photo” lock screen, the options below let you choose another image (or a set of photos if it’s a mixed wallpaper) from your photo library, set a filter, and enable perspective zoom. or disable.

Note that the filters available to you by swiping left and right are intelligently automatically generated for the selected image, so depending on whether it’s a depth-of-field photo or a color wallpaper, for example, you’ll see different options here.  (If it’s a photo, keep in mind that choosing different filters may also apply different typeface styles to the time and date.) If you’re customizing a lock screen from Apple Collections, there are more options at the bottom of the screen.

Widgets you can add above Time include another time zone, set alarm, next calendar event, weather, your activity alarms, next reminder, and select stocks. Widgets that can be placed under time are more informative and include device battery levels, calendar, clock, fitness, home, news, reminders, stocks, and weather.

When you’re done customizing your lock screen, simply tap Done and then tap the screen again to exit the Lock Screen Gallery. Note that you can customize the current lock screen by going to (Settings -> Wallpaper & Lock Screens.).
